Photo of two people with wine glasses at one of the best restaurants in vail coloradoAs summer comes to an end in Vail, it’s only a matter of time before the mountain village is flooded with people looking to ski the legendary slopes. The neighborhoods of Vail are just as legendary as the slopes, with an expansive collection of incredible restaurants featuring dishes from around the world. There are endless places to refuel in the village after a day on the slopes. So we have narrowed down the list with some of the best restaurants in Vail Colorado. And our vacation rentals at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices are the best place to stay throughout the Vail area. Take your tastebuds on a trip around the world when you visit Vail and discover for yourself why the area is a foodies paradise.

Start the Day with a Hearty Breakfast

An important note to keep in mind is that a free transportation service runs through the Vail area for easy access to restaurants without having to drive anywhere!

  • The Little Diner: The Little Diner is a favorite spot for breakfast among locals and tourists alike. The homemade breakfast classics and regional specialties are often regarded as the best in town! The breakfast menu includes crepes, breakfast burritos, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, and hearty platters. But, the must-try item on the menu is the authentic German-style pancakes called pannekoeken.
  • Vintage: Vintage is a classic French-style brasserie that looks like it’s straight off a street in Paris. The mouthwatering French dishes are a must-stop for a taste of Europe in Vail. We recommend the galette dishes, puff pastries with delicious breakfast foods inside, such as the Croque madame galette with egg, gruyere cheese, French cured ham, and bechamel. You can find the complete brunch menu here

Take a Break and Refuel for Lunch

  • Mountain Standard: Mountain Standard is a unique restaurant that uses the oldest cooking style to create homemade meals. The food is cooked over an open and live wood fire to bring out bold and rustic flavors. We recommend the Eaton Ranch cheeseburger made with locally sourced beef just down the road from Vail. Browse the lunch menu here to discover all the delicious dishes at Mountain Standard.
  • La Bottega: Continue your trip around the food world with lunch at the Italian restaurant of La Bottega. Experience the vibrant flavors of Italian cuisine and pair it with a drink from the wine bar. The menu includes subs, specialty sandwiches, paninis, stone oven pizza, and of course, pasta.

The Best Restaurants in Vail Colorado for Dinner

  • Sweet Basil: Sweet Basil is the most popular restaurant in Vail and a popular spot for dinner since the 1970s. This restaurant blends fine dining with creative American cuisine and an expansive wine list. Keep it light with the duck and ricotta ravioli or treat yourself to perfectly cooked Alaskan halibut. And it is essential to pair your meal with a high-quality wine. Sweet Basil is the best restaurant in Vail for a high-end dinner in the mountains.
  • Matsuhisa: Matsuhisa brings the flavors of Japan to Vail with premier sushi and sashimi. The fresh, authentic flavors from renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa are the secret behind the success. Signature dishes here include yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno, black cod miso, and white fish tiradito. Visit Matsuhisa for dinner and enjoy the best sushi in town.

A young woman blows the steam off a ladle as she tries one of her favorite winter soup recipes.Although it may seem like yesterday—or eons, depending on who you ask—since the first snowfall of winter, the fact of the matter is that the coldest part of the year is in full swing. One of the most noteworthy perks associated with Vail luxury rentals from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is having a full kitchen—among many other amenities. Cuisine is often a cornerstone of any vacation, and a mountain retreat is no different. And although there are plenty of good dining options in Vail and the surrounding area, there’s something to be said about learning new winter soup recipes for you and your loved ones to try in between skiing, snowmobiling, and other prominent Colorado winter activities. From bisque to chowder, hearty winter soup recipes have been warming the bodies and souls of winter travelers for generations, so today, we’ll share three of our favorites.

Colorado Vacation Rentals near Vail

Whether your mountain retreat is a quick weekend getaway or an extended vacation, being someplace that feels familiar can go a long way in maximizing your experience. Making meals in your home away from home not only gives you an unparalleled sense of comfort but also helps save some money on your dining budget. One excellent way to unleash your innate culinary talents is to explore and discover winter soup recipes because they are typically relatively easy and allow you to make personal adjustments adhering to your tastes. Perhaps it’s recreating winter family gatherings from when you were a kid or the growing potency of your concoction as the day progresses; there is a sentimental feeling one finds when making and eating soup in the winter. Without further ado, here are three of our favorite winter soup recipes for a mountain retreat in Vail, Colorado.

1. Colorado Lentil Soup

Although many soups are considered a side or appetizer, this Colorado lentil soup is hearty enough to stand on its own as an entire meal! Thanks to the combination of lentils and potatoes, you’ll feel full after a day of playing in the powder. This filling, vegetarian option is best when using a Dutch oven, but you can use a standard stockpot for similar results.

2. Classic Beef and Barley Soup

Perfect for Colorado mountain carnivores, this classic beef and barley soup is so thick, it could almost be classified as a stew! Revolving around robust and succulent top round steak chopped into cubes, the vegetables, beef, and barley combine to provide a flavorful punch and a warm tummy. Having enough protein is crucial in winter, especially for recharging after a day of outdoor excitement!

3. Salmon Chowder

Salmon chowder is an excellent option for those who like creamy soups. With biscuits, sourdough, or crackers, salmon chowder is a fantastic family meal but still elegant enough for the most exquisite of dinner parties. While fresh salmon is what the recipe calls for, you can use canned salmon in a pinch. We also recommend using some local trout instead of salmon if you want to get super creative!

Vail Luxury Rentals from Berkshire Hathaway
